The Center for Decarbonizing Chemical Manufacturing Using Sustainable Electrification (DC-MUSE) is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher for projects in development and integration of electrochemical or plasma technologies into future chemical manufacturing plants powered by renewable-rich electricity grids.

The Center for Decarbonizing Chemical Manufacturing Using Sustainable Electrification (DC- MUSE - is a research network that aims to catalyze the decarbonization of the chemical industry by innovating chemical manufacturing processes powered by sustainable electricity grids. The DC-MUSE Postdoctoral Researcher will play a crucial role in advancing the research agenda of DC-MUSE and fostering collaborations among DC-MUSE students.

Reporting to the Center Director and receiving guidance from a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, the Postdoctoral researcher will contribute to accelerating research and building community across and beyond the network. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in the development and integration of electrochemical or plasma technologies into future chemical manufacturing plants powered by renewable-rich electricity grids. Additionally, DC-MUSE seeks candidates with interest in pursuing academic careers and with demonstrated potential to become future faculty leaders in areas related to the decarbonization of the manufacturing sector. Research tasks in the areas of electrochemical engineering, plasma synthesis and/or systems and grid modeling will be co-developed between the candidate and appropriate faculty members of the DC-MUSE network.


The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for the following activities:

a) Conduct collaborative research: The Postdoc researcher will engage in collaborative research projects within the DC-MUSE network, working alongside at least three different Principal Investigators (PIs). Initial projects will align with the researcher’s expertise and build upon ongoing DC-MUSE projects. The Center Director, in consultation with the Leadership Team, will assign the Postdoc researcher to an initial project and a Faculty research advisor selected within the DC-MUSE network, with subsequent projects being aligned with the Postdoc researcher’s expertise.

b) Mentorship and community engagement: The Postdoc researcher will provide mentorship to DC-MUSE Ph.D. students supported by the grant. In collaboration with the Managing Director, the Postdoc researcher will organize community engagement activities, including a bimonthly student-run seminar series for relevant members of the DC-MUSE relevant members of the DC-MUSE PI's  research groups.

c) Professional development and career preparation: The Postdoc researcher will receive mentorship from at least three DC-MUSE PIs to develop skills essential for a future faculty career. This includes improving presentation skills, proposal preparation, student mentoring, and teaching. The Postdoc researcher will have opportunities to present their research at various institutions within the network, enhancing their visibility. Additionally, the Postdoc researcher will participate in proposal preparation activities for DC-MUSE to gain experience for their future career. The PIs will ensure that the Postdoc researcher engagement in proposal writing activities is limited to less than 10% of their time. Moreover, the PIs will guide the Postdoc researcher through the faculty application process and actively promote and nominate them for high-visibility awards and speaking opportunities.


Qualifications and Requirements:

- Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, etc.)

- Demonstrated expertise and research experience in areas aligned with the DC-MUSE research agenda.

- Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.

- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.

- Interest in pursuing an academic career.

- The Postdoctoral researcher will be hired by New York University and will have affiliations with other institutions as required for their research.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 - $90,000 for post doc with no prior experience. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
